Blyth Battery

Years 3 and 4 visited Blyth Battery to further their understanding of what it was like to live through World War 2 in our locality.

On arrival, the children were greeted by the museum volunteers, who promptly put us in role as Home Guard officers and gave us our marching orders and some very noisy drill practice.  We took a tour of the Battery buildings, gaining an understanding of what it would have been like to undertake the various jobs undertaken at the Battery.  After our lunch we split up into smaller groups to do a carousel of activities:

we looked at artefacts that would have been commonly found around the Battery in the 1940s; we looked at a typical 1940s house and finally did some target practice, aiming at submarines.
