Key Stage 2 visit a Mosque

Lower Key Stage 2 have been learning about Islam. We visited Heaton Road Mosque to support our work in school. Usman met us at the door. First we took off our shoes and then we were taken into one of the prayer halls. We found out that Muslims pray 5 times a day and there are clocks in the mosque showing these times.

We also saw the Minbar which is a raised platform where the Imam stands to lead prayers. We watched some of the congregation saying prayers led by the Imam. Muslims must face the direction of Mecca when praying - a special place in Saudi Arabia. After prayers, Usman showed us a Qur’an which was written in both Arabic and English. Finally, we visited the washrooms – Muslims always wash before they pray.

We really enjoyed our visit and found out lots of interesting things about Islam. It was a great experience to learn about and show respect towards others in our community.

A big thank you to the parents who came with us.
