Shakespeare Schools Festival

22 pupils from Y5 and Y6 took to the stage at Whitley Bay Playhouse on Tuesday 12th November to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of the National Shakespeare School’s Festival.

They worked really hard for approximately 6 months at an After School Drama Club in preparation; Drama activities included understanding the Shakespearean language, speaking the language, understanding the story and the complex array of characters and then working together to tell the whole story.

For the whole cast, this was a truly amazing experience - to perform on a real stage to a real paying audience, with lighting, sound effects and, of course, fantastic costumes designed by Sandra Vincent and Lynne Smith.
The pupils have grown so much in confidence and self-esteem; the pupils, the staff and their parents are so proud of their achievements.  When the children ask, ‘What play can we do next year and when can we start rehearsing?’ you know you have hit on a winning formula.  Well done to everyone involved.
