Temple Visit

On Friday 28th June, pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 visited the Mandir, a Hindu Temple on The West Road in Newcastle.  This linked with our learning in school on Hinduism.  As we arrived, we were asked to remove our shoes as a mark of respect to the Hindu beliefs.  The Pandit introduced himself to us and gave us a talk about the Hindu religion.

He discussed the different deities on display in the Temple, the relevance of the Aum symbol and the main Hindu festivals of Holi and Diwali.  Some members of the Hindu community visited the temple for prayers at 11am and we were privileged to witness their religious Hindu traditions, chanting and Hindu prayers first hand.  We were then free to look around the Temple and to ask questions.
